Yauco Landfill

As of 2017, Yauco Landfill has approximately 1,730,150 tons of waste in place. The total permitted design capacity of the facility is 1,881,022 tons, meaning the site is currently at approximately 92% of its total design capacity. The facility accepts approximately 72,950 tons of waste per year based on the most recent annual data. At the current rate of fill, the facility is projected to reach capacity and close around 2017.

Yauco Landfill has an LFG energy project with a current status of 'Low Potential'. Landfill gas recovery projects capture methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases generating electricity or other usable energy.

Yauco Landfill does not currently have an active landfill gas collection system. Landfill gas is produced naturally as organic waste decomposes underground. Facilities without active collection systems may use passive venting to manage gas migration. Future LFG collection projects may be considered as the volume of waste in place increases.
