South County LF closed in 1994.

South County LF has an LFG energy project with a current status of 'Low Potential'. Landfill gas recovery projects capture methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases generating electricity or other usable energy.

South County LF currently covers approximately 6 acres with a depth of approximately 30 feet. The facility opened in 1976 and has been in continuous operation since then. The design specifications call for a total area of 6 acres. The size of a landfill reflects both its operational history and the volume of waste it has processed over its lifetime of service to the surrounding community.

South County LF does not currently have an active landfill gas collection system. Landfill gas is produced naturally as organic waste decomposes underground. Facilities without active collection systems may use passive venting to manage gas migration. Future LFG collection projects may be considered as the volume of waste in place increases.
