Northampton County Sanitary Landfill has an LFG energy project with a current status of 'Low Potential'. Landfill gas recovery projects capture methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases generating electricity or other usable energy.

Northampton County Sanitary Landfill does not currently have an active landfill gas collection system. Landfill gas is produced naturally as organic waste decomposes underground. Facilities without active collection systems may use passive venting to manage gas migration. Future LFG collection projects may be considered as the volume of waste in place increases.
