About This Facility

Description

Munster LF is a closed public landfill located in Munster, Lake, Indiana. It has been in operation since 1960. The facility is projected to close in 2004. The facility is operated by Munster LF and owned by Town of Munster, IN. As of 2004, the facility holds approximately 2,040,688 tons of waste in place — approximately 97% of its total permitted capacity. Its total design capacity is 2,111,087 tons. The annual waste acceptance rate is approximately 70,547 tons per year. The site covers approximately 79.4 acres. The facility operates a landfill gas collection system, and has an operational landfill gas-to-energy project. The project uses Reciprocating Engine technology.
