About This Facility

Description

Montgomery County Landfill is a closed private landfill located in Troy, Montgomery, North Carolina. It has been in operation since 1980. The facility is projected to close in 1997. As of 1997, the facility holds approximately 1,300,000 tons of waste in place. The site covers approximately 44 acres. The facility operates a landfill gas collection system, and has an operational landfill gas-to-energy project. The project uses Reciprocating Engine technology. Capturing landfill gas reduces greenhouse gas emissions and, in many cases, generates clean renewable energy.
