Haley Pike Landfill

As of 2011, Haley Pike Landfill has approximately 4,970,000 tons of waste in place. At the current rate of fill, the facility is projected to reach capacity and close around 2011.

Haley Pike Landfill has an LFG energy project with a current status of 'Low Potential'. The facility generates approximately 2.0 mmscfd of landfill gas. Landfill gas recovery projects capture methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases generating electricity or other usable energy.

Haley Pike Landfill currently covers approximately 150 acres with a depth of approximately 90 feet. The facility opened in 1977 and has been in continuous operation since then. The size of a landfill reflects both its operational history and the volume of waste it has processed over its lifetime of service to the surrounding community.

Haley Pike Landfill does not currently have an active landfill gas collection system. Landfill gas is produced naturally as organic waste decomposes underground. Facilities without active collection systems may use passive venting — this facility uses passive venting or flaring. Future LFG collection projects may be considered as the volume of waste in place increases.
