As of 2007, Cayey Landfill has approximately 1,000,000 tons of waste in place. The facility accepts approximately 32,843 tons of waste per year based on the most recent annual data. At the current rate of fill, the facility is projected to reach capacity and close around 2017.

Cayey Landfill has an LFG energy project with a current status of 'Low Potential'. Landfill gas recovery projects capture methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases generating electricity or other usable energy.
