Bondi Island Landfill is a closed public landfill located in West Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. It has been in operation since 1968. The facility is projected to close in 1996. The facility is operated by Springfield Resource Recovery and owned by City of Springfield, MA. The site covers approximately 71.3 acres. The facility operates a landfill gas collection system, and has an shutdown landfill gas-to-energy project. The project uses Steam Turbine technology. Capturing landfill gas reduces greenhouse gas emissions and, in many cases, generates clean renewable energy. Bondi Island Landfill also offers composting services.
