Furnace Creek

As of 1996, Furnace Creek has approximately 50,000 tons of waste in place. The facility accepts approximately 140 tons of waste per year based on the most recent annual data. At the current rate of fill, the facility is projected to reach capacity and close around 1996.

Furnace Creek has an LFG energy project with a current status of 'Low Potential'. Landfill gas recovery projects capture methane that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in many cases generating electricity or other usable energy.

Furnace Creek does not currently have an active landfill gas collection system. Landfill gas is produced naturally as organic waste decomposes underground.
